Aynsley McDonald given Victory Shield call-up
Rushden & Diamonds Centre of Excellence and Youth Team player Aynsley McDonald has been called up to the Welsh National Development Under 16 Squad's to play in Wales' final Victory Shield game against Northern Ireland
Aynsley had been an ever present in the Welsh Under 16 squad until injury ruled him out of contention over recent weeks. Now fully fit again, McDonald has been recalled to the squad for Wales' final game of the competition.
The game takes place at Aberystwyth Town FC's ground at 7:45pm on Friday 23rd November 2007 and could lead to Wales being crowned Victory Shield champions.
A win would see Wales top the group, with the final game of the competition between England and Scotland deciding the outcome of the Victory Shield. A Scottish victory would see both Scotland and Wales crowned as joint-champions, an English victory would see England crowned as champions and a draw would ensure the Welsh won outright.
Paul Driver, head of youth at Rushden & Diamonds said "Aynsley's involvement over the past year with the Welsh squad has also helped with his development as he pushes to gain a regular place in the youth and first teams.
Like a number of the Rushden youth and first team players, Aynsley started his time with the Club training and playing with the Elite Centre, before making the transition up to the Centre of Excellence. We wish Aynsley the best of luck on his call up to the international stage."
