Charities benefit from FA Community Shield Fund
Rushden & Diamonds presented cheques to three local charities at half time in the game against Halifax Town on Saturday 9th February 2008.
The charities that benefited from Rushden & Diamonds £5000 allocation are;
Irthlingborough Old Peoples Welfare Association, who run Irthlingborough Day Centre for elderly and disabled people, providing meals and activities.

Family Action In Our Region, a group which provides opportunities and support for young parents and families in Rushden and the surrounding area.

Higham Gateway Club, a club that provides opportunities for social and leisure activities for people with learning difficulties in the local community.

Using the money made from the Community Shield, the season opener between Manchester United and Chelsea. The FA allocates £5000 to each of the clubs involved in last season's FA Cup, from the first round onward to donate to local charities. The remainder of the fund is split between the FA's four official charity partners, The British Heart Foundation, The Everyman 'Keep Your Eye On The Ball' Campaign, Breakthrough Breast Cancer and Coaching For Hope, a charity that uses football coaching to improve the lives of disadvantaged children in Africa and highlight HIV/AIDS awareness.
Chief Executive at Rushden & Diamonds, Helen Thompson said "Every year, the Football Association contact us and request that we nominate charities to benefit from our allocation. Registered charities are welcome to contact us and apply to be considered for next season's fund. We are delighted to be able to make such a significant contribution to the local community, this is what Rushden & Diamonds FC is all about"
