Rushden & Diamonds have today signed twenty seven year old striker Lee Phillips from Torquay United for an undisclosed fee.

As a youngster Phillips was an impressive rugby player as well as a footballer. Phillips signed for Plymouth as a youth player, becoming the youngest player to appear for the Argyle first team aged just 15 years old.

Phillips then had spells at Weymouth and Exeter before joining Torquay in the summer of 2007. Forming an impressive strike partnership with Tim Sills, Lee scored 12 times last season, with numerous assists, proving to be an influential and creative front man.

Phillips commented on signing at Nene Park today "I'm here to score goals, but to also do a lot of the dirty work and set up goals. I'll work the channels hard and I'll run into the ground if needs be. I'm excited to be here and just want to get the season started now.

The Gaffer's aspirations are very big, and you can see that by the players he's signing and calibre of players he's trying to get in. It's a big step for me and I'm sure it's going to be one I'll enjoy."
