The Diamond League
The indoor league is now complete so congratulations to Real Sports Allstars for retaining their title. It looked for some while that they would not be beaten throughout the tournament but Cons FC, Lilacs, AFC Streetwise (Cup) and Weavers Old Boys proved that they were beatable. Real Sports finished on the right note with four-goal Joe Boxall on song giving them two victories to give them champions' medals by a massive 17 points. Goaters FC were already assured of runners up spot but lost their final game against Streetwise. You could tell that Cons FC really wanted third place and thanks to four-goal Carl Mallett they did so with two wins, changing places with The Grove FC who dropped three places after two defeats. No movement for Streetwise and Weavers whilst Eightball and Lilacs lost both of their games ensuring the latter remained bottom. Both these teams can score goals as Loz Holt scoring 36 times for Lilacs in the tournament whilst Kurt Pye and Rob Callery both notched up 24.
Outdoors, league champions Voodoo had the pressure off them whilst they were pushed all the way in a friendly against bottom club Bobby Dazzlers. Meanwhile the bottom of the table almost had a remarkable look. If Misco had lost by one more goal in defeat against Green Dragon, they would have had identical records in all respects as Dazzlers. Not sure Misco realised that.The pressure was off for The Source, who had already claimed second spot after being held to a 3-3 draw by fourth place CVL.
It's cup action now with the finals in the indoor section. After the round robin section of two groups, the top two teams from each play in the main competition whilst the bottom two play of each play in the 'plate' event.
The outdoor tournament is a week behind so need to complete their leagues with only Green Dragon assured of a place in the main competition.
